Travis is originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina. He attended the University of South Carolina Honors College, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Columbia Theological Seminary, from which he received the Doctor of Theology degree in Pastoral Counseling. In addition, he is licensed to practice marriage and family therapy in Georgia.

Travis’ first call was as associate pastor for congregational care at First Presbyterian Church in Meadville, PA, where he served for three and a half years before returning to Columbia, SC, where he was the associate pastor for discipleship and mission at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.

Along with his wife, Karen, who is also a PCUSA pastor, he co-founded Healthy Seminarians-Healthy Church, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and validated ministry of Trinity Presbytery (SC), for which he serves as a board member and secretary. Health and wholeness – of people, communities, and the creation – have long been a central focus of his ministry.
